The Matagorda
Bay area holds many wonders for anyone with a love for nature and
her many gifts. Fishing in East and West Matagorda Bays always promises
the thrill of a good fight -- and a good catch. Our area also boasts
one of the highest Christmas Bird Counts in the nation, and birders
are always in for a treat when birding our bays, back-roads, and
beaches. Our beaches offer limitless opportunities for camping,
swimming, beach-combing, surfing, and many other sports. For people
interested in history, Matagorda is "the place where Texas
history began" and our history is rich with stories of our
fight for Texas Independence, Indian fighting, and the Civil War.
