Friday
1/31/03 |
The Diversion Channel is starting to heat up - nice
catches of trout and redfish are being caught using soft plastics
and live shrimp. (Live shrimp is available at Rawlings Bait
Camp on Beach Road.) Down at the beach lots of whiting are being
caught using fresh dead bait. East Matagorda Bay produced some
trout and reds by drifting over scattered shell on the deeper
reefs like the Raymond Shoal area. Wadefishing down in the Brown
Cedar Flats area has been productive, too. Green's Bayou has
been producing reds for wade fishermen off and on all week.
|
Thursday
1/30/03 |
Most of the action was in West Matagorda Bay today.
In the Diversion Channel there were limits of redfish being
caught by drift fishermen on soft plastics. On the south shoreline
of West Matagorda Bay down in the Green's Bayou area by wade
fishermen. Not many trout were caught anywhere. |
Wednesday
1/29/03 |
In East Matagorda Bay today fishing wasn't as good
as yesterday but there were some big trout caught by wade-fishing
around the Brown Cedar Flats area again today. There were
also trout, reds, and flounder caught along the south shoreline
by wade fishermen. There were a few trout caught by drifting
over scattered shell over the deep reefs down on the west
end of that bay. Bass Assassins were mainly used for bait.
Over in West Matagorda Bay there were limits of reds being
caught in the Green's Bayou area on the south shoreline by
wadefishermen using soft plastics. |
Tuesday
1/28/03 |
I was just over at the cleaning tables at Matagorda
Harbor. Capt. Billy Pustejovsky of Gold Tip Guide Service and
the three men in his party had a load of fish - 40 trout with
5 or 6 of them over 25 inches, 6 redfish, and a few flounder.
They had caught them by wadefishing down around Brown Cedar
Flats in East Matagorda Bay using Bass Assassins. Seems like
Capt. Pustejovsky really knows how to catch them! There were
also a few trout and some redfish caught by drifting over the
deeper shell reefs on the west end of East Matagorda Bay. |
Monday
1/27/03 |
No fishing report again - couldn't even find anyone
who went out. |
Sunday
1/26/03 |
Bad weather...again. No fishing report available. |
Saturday
1/25/03 |
In East Matagorda Bay there were some reds caught
by drift fishermen, but for the most part, fishing is still
in a slump. |
Friday
1/24/03 |
It is still too cold and windy for fishing, so I will
tell you about the proposals that Texas Parks and Wildlife will
be considering later this year. 1) Maintain minimum speckled
trout size to 15 inch minimum and 10 fish daily bag limit, and
2) Maximum trout size limit of 25" with 1 trout per day
over. There are some other proposals that affect fishing guides
but the ones listed above are the only ones that would apply
to regular sport fishermen. But REMEMBER - these are only proposals
at this point. |
Thursday
1/23/03 |
Too cold and too windy. |
Wednesday
1/22/03 |
Boy! Wasn't today a real howler! The wind blew all
day, and the longer it blew, the colder it got! Not many ventured
out into the bays. Capt. Charlie Paradoski and his party brought
in a nice catch of speckled trout, flounder and redfish which
they caught by drifting down on the west end of East Matagorda
Bay using Bass Assassins. |
Tuesday
1/21/03 |
It was sure a beautiful day for fishing, but fishing
down here was pretty slow again. There were trout and redfish
caught by wadefishermen and by drifting using soft plastics
and other artificials down on the east end of East Matagorda
Bay around the Brown Cedar area. |
Monday
1/20/03 |
Still not much going on down here. There are some
scattered catches of trout over the deeper shell reefs on
the west end of East Matagorda Bay being reported. Over In
West Matagorda Bay we had some reports of keeper trout being
caught in the Coon Island area on soft plastics. The tides
are still running low. |
Sunday
1/19/03 |
Fishing picked up a little bit today. There were some
scattered catches of trout and redfish in East Matagorda Bay
down on the south and west end of the bay - along the shoreline
and around scattered deeper shell. In West Matagorda Bay there
were also some catches of trout and redfish on the south shoreline
down around Green's Bayou. Nice catches of red snapper were
brought in again today from offshore. |
Saturday
1/18/03 |
There still isn't much going on down here in the way
of fishing. There were a few duck hunters out in East Matagorda
Bay today and a few brave fishermen who caught a few here and
there. I saw one boat come in from offshore with limits of red
snapper. We're having real low tides now, too. |
Friday
1/17/03 |
I can't give you a fishing report for today because
I wasn't able to find any information or anyone who went out.
I guess the cold weather kept everyone at home. |
Thursday
1/16/03 |
Today was a slow day because of the weather. We had
a fresh norther blowing and the wind was tough. I did hear a
couple reports of wadefishermen catching some small specks with
a few keeper trout and reds along the south shoreline of East
Matagorda Bay. For the most part, though, those who ventured
out didn't stay long. |
Wednesday
1/15/03 |
Today was a fair day for fishing in Matagorda Bay.
In East Matagorda Bay there was a fair amount of trout and redfish
caught by drifting over scattered shell around the deeper reefs
on the west end of the bay using soft plastics such as Bass
Assassins. Over in West Matagorda Bay wadefishermen along the
south shoreline near Cotton's Bayou and drift fishermen who
drifted along the north shoreline near reefs were able to bring
in some nice catches of trout and reds. Get ready for some COLD
weather, guys! |
Tuesday
1/14/03 |
East Matagorda Bay produced a few fish - trout, reds
and flounder - by drifting over the deeper scattered shell reefs
on the west end of the bay using soft plastics. Over in West
Matagorda Bay there were some nice limits of redfish brought
in by wade fishermen who fished the Green's Bayou area on the
south shoreline using soft plastics. It looks like one more
good fishing day before the weather turns bad on Thursday... |
Monday
1/13/03 |
No report for today. |
Sunday
1/12/03 |
I don't have anything to report today - it has been
cold, rainy and windy since daybreak. Rawlings Bait Camp and
Matagorda Harbor both reported "dead" days today.
The rain should quit by tomorrow. |
Saturday
1/11/03 |
Misty rain started early this morning and put an end
to most fishing trips. The weather was more suited to duck hunters
today - I heard them shooting down on the west end of East Bay
early this morning. The Harbor and Rawlings Bait Camp both had
nothing to report. Does anyone out there know
of a saltwater fishing club in the area? One of my subscribers
from Houston is looking for a club to join. If you know of one,
please send me email - webmaster@matagorda-bay.com
. Maybe someone wants to start a club....... |
Friday
1/10/03 |
It was windy, windy,
windy today. Kingfisher went out into East Matagorda Bay this
morning and only saw one other boat out there. So, most people
stayed home. There were, however, a few catches of trout here
and there and we had reports of two flounder being caught...but
that's about it for today! Tomorrow the wind shouldn't be as
strong, so keep your fingers crossed! |
Wednesday
1/8/03 |
East Matagorda Bay was a little
better today. There were some trout caught by wadefishermen
on the east end around the Oyster Farm using soft plastics.
There were also catches of trout caught by drift fishermen over
scattered shell on the midbay reefs. The southwest pocket of
East Bay was also productive. |
Tuesday
1/7/03 |
Matagorda Harbor and Rawlings
Bait Camp both reported very slow days with few reports of fish
being caught. We did receive a few reports of keeper trout being
caught down around the Oyster Farm on the east end of East Matagorda
Bay using Bass Assassins with chartreuse tails and some flounder
being caught around the entrance to Old Gulf Cut. |
Monday
1/6/03 |
Fishing remains slow in East
Matagorda Bay. The tides are still running extremely low, too.
There are trout and a few reds being caught over the midbay
reefs where the water is deepest on the west end -- but not
in large amounts. |
Sunday
1/5/03 |
East Matagorda Bay had a
lot of fishermen out there trying their luck, but not a lot
of stringers brought in. There were some catches of trout
and redfish, though. The tide is still running extremely low.
No report from the jetties or offshore. There are still a
few whitings being caught down the beach. |
Saturday
1/4/03 |
East Matagorda Bay had a lot
of fishermen out in the bay today, but there weren't a lot of
fish being caught. There is still a real low tide. Fishing at
the jetties was real good, though, on the incoming tide - lots
of trout and redfish were caught on live shrimp. There were
also some whiting caught down the beach on dead shrimp again
today. Offshore was great! Lots of kingfish, red snapper, and
Spanish mackerel were brought in. |
Friday
1/3/03 |
A very slow day of fishing!
Nothing much to report from East Matagorda Bay - scattered catches.
There was an extremely low tide, and the fish moved to the deeper
shell reefs in the bay. There were some whiting caught down
the beach from the jetties using dead shrimp. |
Thursday
1/2/03 |
I could only find one guide
who went out into East Matagorda Bay today fishing - he said
he was just about alone. The water looked good even with the
high winds, but the fish just weren't biting. He only brought
two trout in. |
Wednesday
1/1/03 |
Happy New Year to all of you!
Today was a slow day for fishing. Very few people went out fishing;
Matagorda Harbor was closed for the day. We were unable to get
any fishing reports. |
