Offshore fishermen had a good day of snapper fishing at the rigs. East and West Matagorda Bay both produced a fair amount of trout today. Along the south shoreline in East Bay there were two really nice trout caught - an eight-pounder and a six-pounder. We also heard that Gold Tip Guide Service came in Friday with a nine pound trout.
Saturday
2/23/02
In East Matagorda Bay a few trout were caught by wadefishing along the south shoreline and drifting over scattered shell on the south side. Offshore fishing was good for snapper today. Whiting are being caught in the surf and redfish at the jetties.
Friday
2/22/02
The Diversion Channel was the hot spot for today - trout, redfish and a fair amount of flounder were caught by drift fishing using Bass Assassins. High winds prevented any other fishing today.
Thursday
2/21/02
In West Matagorda Bay there were some trout and reds caught by wadefishermen along the south shoreline on soft plastics. East Matagorda Bay produced several nice stringers of trout for fishermen who drifted over scattered shell and oyster reefs using soft plastics and live shrimp. Rawlings Bait Camp reports that trout, whiting, drum and sheephead are being caught on live/dead shrimp at the pier down at the beach.
Wednesday

The weather was beautiful and there were a few fishermen going out, but we didn't see any catches coming back in.
Tuesday
2/19/02
We had drizzling rain off and on all day today and we couldn't find anyone who went out fishing.
Monday

There were a few redfish caught in the Diversion Channel. In East Matagorda Bay there were some stringers of trout caught by wadefishermen using soft plastics along the south shoreline.
2/17/02
Offshore fishing was great today with lots of red snapper being brought in. Closer to home the Diversion Channel was producing plenty of redfish on live/dead shrimp, and there were also flounder caught in the same location. In West Matagorda Bay and in Oyster Lake fair amounts of redfish were also caught. Drifting over scattered shell in the middle of East Matagorda Bay produced some nice trout. In the river down around the jetties fishermen were catching sheephead and whiting.
2/16/02
Today produced redfish in Diversion Channel - sheephead and drum were being caught on dead shrimp in the river down by Rawlings Bait Camp. East Bay produced a fair amount of trout for wadefishermen down on the northeast end around Bird Island. There was a report of an 8+ pound trout caught down there.
2/15/02
Fishing slowed down a bit today -- there were some redfish caught in West Matagorda Bay and the same for trout in East Matagorda Bay. There were reports of some whiting being caught in the surf.
2/14/02
Good day of fishing today! In West Matagorda Bay the redfish were hot -- along the south shoreline and in the Diversion Channel using live and artificial baits. Lots of nice stringers of trout came out of East Matagorda Bay -- caught by wadefishermen along the south shoreline -- using Corkys and other artificial plastics.
2/13/02
In East Matagorda Bay full stringers of nice-sized trout were caught by wadefishermen who waded along the south shoreline. There were also trout caught in the Bird Island area on the east end of East Matagorda Bay by drifting over scattered shell.
2/10/02
Today was the last day of the Troutmasters tournament, and what a day for fishing! The wind was blowing so hard that it was howling through the trees down here. It turned off cold, too, so it was really a poor day of fishing. Some fish were caught here and there -- scattered reports but nothing to speak of.
2/09/02
The Troutmasters tournament was going on today. We had reports of some nice trout being caught drifting over scattered shell out in East Matagorda Bay using soft plastics. There were some reports, too, of a few trout being caught in West Matagorda Bay. The Troutmasters tournament continues tomorrow.
2/08/02
A few trout were caught in East Matagorda Bay by wadefishermen. There were some limits of redfish caught in West Matagorda Bay.
2/06/02
There were a few trout caught by wadefishing in East Matagorda Bay. Water temperature is still around 52 degrees and fishing is slow. The weekend is looking better. The Troutmasters Tournament is in Matagorda this weekend.

It's a bad week for fishing -- the weather is still bad and we haven't found anyone who went out fishing. Looks like the weekend is going to be good weather for fishing, though.
2/04/02
2/03/02
Unable to obtain fishing report because of the weather.
2/02/02
No fish caught in East Matagorda Bay -- very few people went out because of the cold. Down at the pier on the beach a few sheepshead and drum were caught.
2/01/02
