Sunday
06/30/02 |
East Matagorda Bay
- there were a few trout and reds caught by drifting over scattered
shell and wadefishing along the south shoreline using live shrimp
under a popping cork and artificials. West Matagorda Bay produced
some reds along the south shoreline using She Dogs and other
topwaters. It's still pretty rough in the surf and few fishermen
on the pier. |
Saturday
06/29/02 |
Another day of rain
kept the fishermen away. However, I did see some croaker being
caught on dead bait between Rawlings Bait Camp and the jetties.
The surf was unbelievably rough today - same held true for the
bays. |
Friday
06/28/02 |
No fishing report
today because of the rainy weather. |
Thursday
06/27/02 |
Old Gulf Cut was
the flounder spot for today - one guy sat and caught 7 flounder
there - but he sat all day fishing. The south shoreline of East
Matagorda Bay produced some trout and reds on soft plastic baits.
Drifting under the birds in the middle of East Bay produced
some nice trout. People at the fishing pier caught some redfish,
drum and whiting on live and dead shrimp. |
Wednesday
06/26/02 |
The thunderstorms
ran everyone out of the bays early today. There were, however,
some catches of trout and reds along the south shoreline of
East Matagorda Bay, and there were trout and reds being caught
in the surf on live bait this morning before the storms came
in. |
Tuesday
06/25/02 |
An average day of
fishing here in Matagorda today. There were some trout and reds
caught on topwaters and Bass Assassins along the south shoreline
by wadefishermen. There were a few birds working, but most of
the trout caughter near the birds were small. We had a report
of a few reds being caught by some driftfishermen in Oyster
Lake. |
Monday
06/24/02 |
Fishing was fair today
in East Matagorda Bay - south shoreline again. Trout and reds
were caught using artificials, topwaters such as She-Dogs or
Excalibur Super Spooks, or live shrimp under a popping cork.
There were reports of some trout and reds being caught at the
pier down at the beach, too. No report from offshore or West
Matagorda Bay today. |
Sunday
06/23/02 |
Nice stringers of trout
and redfish were brought in from East Matagorda Bay by wadefishermen
along the south shoreline and drift fishermen who fished under
the feeding birds. In West Matagorda Bay there were redfish
and a few trout caught along the south shoreline - on artificials
and live shrimp. Trout and redfish were being caught off the
fishing pier at the beach. Offshore was real good - snapper,
ling and some kingfish were caught. |
Saturday
06/22/02 |
A pretty good day of
fishing! East Matagorda Bay produced more fish today - trout,
quite a few reds, and some flounder when wadefishing and drifting
over scattered shell using live shrimp under a popping cork
and artificials such as Bass Assassins and Norton Sand Eels.
In West Matagorda Bay there were some trout caught along the
south shoreline. We also had reports of redfish being caught
in Oyster Lake by drift fishermen. There were also reports of
snapper being brought in from offshore. |
Friday
06/21/02 |
Very few fishermen
went out today because it was a little windy. There were a
few trout caught on artificials along the south shoreline
of East Bay and a few trout caught on artificials along the
south shoreline of West Bay.
It was rough at the beach and jetties,
so we had no fishing report. |
Thursday
06/20/02 |
Fishing was slower
today than it has been the last few days. The wind blew out
of the southwest and muddied up the bays somewhat. In East
Matagorda Bay a few fishermen came in with nice catches of
trout and a few reds - they were drifting along the south
shoreline. In West Matagorda Bay a few trout were caught down
around Green's Bayou by wadefishermen using artificials such
as Norton Sand Eels.
We had a nice fishing report from
Capt. Brian Barnes of First
Tide Guide Service. On Tuesday and Wednesday of
this week he fished in Espiritu Santo Bay. His party on Tuesday
ended up with 14 trout ranging from 16 to 22 inches and 4
nice reds around 25 inches - using live croaker for bait.
On Wednesday he caught quite a few small trout and one nice
sized one - 26 inches long and 5.4 lb. - he was using the
5-inch Hogie eel Diablo - lighter colors were working the
best.
No report from the beach or the
jetties today - it was too rough. |
Wednesday
06/19/02 |
East Matagorda Bay
was the ticket again today. Nice stringers of trout were brought
in by wadefishermen and fishermen who drifted over scattered
shell reefs. The bait of choice was artificial - Bass Assassins
such as the chartreuse woodpecker color and topwaters like TopDogs.
There were some trout caught in West Matagorda Bay along the
south shoreline and a few tripletails. |
Tuesday
06/18/02 |
East Matagorda Bay
seemed to be the ticket today - there were lots of beautiful
stringers of trout brought out by wadefishermen and people
who drifted over scattered shell using artificials such as
Bass Assassins and Norton Sand Eels. West Matagorda Bay wadefishermen
brought in some trout on artificials and some tripletails
on live shrimp. Also, there were trout being caught in the
surf and at the jetties using live shrimp and finger mullet.
Capt. Brian Barnes of First
Tide Guide Service reports having a good day wadefishing
today on the east end of East Matagorda Bay between the reefs
throwing Hogies and Norton sand eels in rootbeer and chartreuse
colors. |
Monday
06/17/02 |
Slim pickings today on
the fishing front - there were trout caught in the surf - there
were birds working the guts along the shoreline. There were
a few trout and reds brought in from the bays, but not really
much to talk about. |
Sunday
06/16/02 |
We had a storm here early
this morning with winds gusting to 70 mph - it pretty well spoiled
the day for fishing. There were a few fish caught here and there,
but for the most part it was a poor day of fishing. |
Saturday
06/15/02 |
A pretty nice day of
fishing - the south shorelines of both bays produced trout and
reds on live shrimp under a popping cork and artificials such
as Bass Assassins or Norton Sand Eels. Topwaters brought in
a few reds, too. Drifting under the birds in East Matagorda
Bay was good - producing nice school trout. |
Friday
06/14/02 |
In East Matagorda Bay
wadefishing along the south shoreline or drifting over scattered
shell produced nice stringers of trout. Most of the fish were
caught in the morning . The surf was good for trout, using live
shrimp under a popping cork. Offshore brought nice catches of
kingfish and wahoo. |
Thursday
06/13/02 |
Fishing was pretty good
in East Matagorda Bay today. Wadefishermen and driftfishermen
under the birds were able to bring home some nice trout using
artificials and live shrimp under a popping cork. At the fishing
pier there were a few trout and sharks caught. |
Wednesday
06/12/02 |
East Matagorda Bay provided
the best fishing today. Drifting under the birds produced catches
of trout when using live shrimp under a popping cork or artificial
baits. West Matagorda Bay had a few reports of trout and reds
being caught along the south shoreline. No report was available
from the pier at the beach. |
Tuesday
06/11/02 |
Not much to report today.
It was a poor fishing day all around - wind, tides, etc. all
contributed. We had a few reports of trout being caught down
on the south shoreline (east end) of East Bay - but no great
quantity. |
Monday
06/10/02 |
The only place any fish
were caught today was in West Matagorda Bay - along the south
shoreline wadefishing. Some trout and reds were caught with
a few of the trout being in the 5-6 lb. range. |
Sunday
06/09/02 |
Fishing slowed down today.
There are still reds and some trout being caught at the pier
at the beach. East Matagorda Bay produced a few trout, flounder
and reds along the south shoreline, as did West Matagorda Bay.
Nothing much from offshore - the wind picked up today, putting
an end to offshore fishing for the weekend. |
Saturday
06/08/02 |
Another good day all
over! The surf is producing lots of trout and reds; and the
jetty is producing Spanisl mackerel, trout, reds, and sheephead
- all on live shrimp. In West Matagorda Bay there were trout,
redfish, and flounder caught around Shell Island and Mad Island
Slough - drifting, anchoring and wading using live shrimp for
bait. In East Matagorda Bay drifting/wading under the birds
or over scattered shell was good for catching trout and redfish
on live shrimp. We had another real good day offshore, too -
with fishermen bringing in lots or the "regulars"
- kingfish, ling, snapper, etc. |
Friday
06/07/02 |
A pretty good day of
fishing down here! Fishing in the surf was really good today
- driving down the beach in a vehicle or going west along the
beach by boat! Lots of trout (up to 6 lb.) were caught using
live shrimp under a popping cork or artificials. There were
also trout and reds caught at the jetties. Offshore, of course,
is still great with lots of fish of all kinds being brought
in. East Matagorda Bay was excellent for trout and reds today
- drifting or wading under the birds along the north shoreline
using live shrimp or artificials produced good yields. And of
course, everything down here is as busy as can be with the tournament
going on! |
Thursday
06/06/02 |
It was a slow day of
fishing today - few people went out. There were scattered reports
of some trout and redfish being caught along the south shoreline
of West Bay using soft plastics in a pumpkinseed color. Lots
of preparations for the Oilman's tournament are going on down
here. I will try to get some pictures this weekend. |
Wednesday
06/05/02 |
In East Matagorda Bay
there were a few reports of trout and a few reds being caught
along the south shoreline by wadefishermen. In West Matagorda
Bay there were some trout caught by wadefishermen along the
south shoreline in the Green's Bayou area. West Bay was better
than East Bay. Lots of activity starting up today in preparation
for the Oilman's Tournament which will be held down here on
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday -- be prepared for boats everywhere!
|
Tuesday
06/04/02 |
Not too much to report
today - those who went out today came in with small fish - not
many keepers. |
Monday
06/03/02 |
After a good weekend,
everything slowed down today - partly because the fish weren't
biting as well and partly because not as many people were out
fishing. There were some reports of a few nice catches of trout
down around Green's Bayou along the south shoreline of West
Matagorda Bay. |
Sunday
06/02/02 |
Wahoo! A 63-pound one
at that! Offshore was where the fishing was good today. There
was a 63-pound wahoo brought in and weighed at Matagorda Harbor
this afternoon. There were also red snapper, amberjack, ling,
and dorado brought in from offshore in large numbers. Not too
much was going on in West Matagorda Bay - a few reds were brought
in. However, there were some nice catches of trout over in East
Matagorda Bay along the south shoreline down on the east end
- with several in the 6 lb. range. At the jetties there were
trout and redfish being caught. A pretty good day over all. |
Saturday
06/01/02 |
Fishing in both bays
was slow today - there were a few reports of people coming in
with trout, redfish and flounder, but none in any quantity.
The surf was full of trout and reds and were being caught on
live shrimp and croaker. Offshore is still the BEST - people
coming in with loads of fish. |
