East Matagorda Bay was good today for trout and reds when drifting over the scattered reefs out in midbay and wading along the south shoreline using artificials - topwaters and Norton sand eels. So,  is Hurricane Lili gonna mess up fishing for us????
Sunday
09/29/02
East Matagorda Bay produced nice stringers of trout on live shrimp and artificials along the south shoreline either working the birds or driftfishing. The south and north shorelines of West Matagorda Bay produced nice redfish using live shrimp and cut bait. At the drawbridge people caught nice reds all day. At the jetties fishermen were catching redfish, sharks, and whiting. Those who went offshore had good luck catching snapper.
Saturday
09/28/02
Another good day of fishing today! East Matagorda Bay is still producing some nice trout and reds for those who fished under the birds or drifted over scattered shell in mid-bay. There were also some flounder caught in the cuts leading into the bay. Oyster Lake produced some nice reds for those who were using live shrimp under a popping cork. We also had reports of some reds being caught at the jetties, as well as some trout and croaker.
Friday
09/27/02
Fishing in East Matagorda Bay was really good today. Along the north shoreline, fishing under the birds produced nice sized trout. Drifting in mid bay over scattered shell also produced nice trout and some reds. Baits of choice were live shrimp under a popping cork and artificials.
Thursday
09/26/02
Fishing picked up today and we had a better report. East Matagorda Bay was productive for trout, reds, and flounder along the north shoreline for wadefishermen and those who drifted under the birds using artificials. Over in West Matagorda Bay there were some nice reds and trout brought in from the north shoreline. We should have light winds out of the north tomorrow.
Wednesday
09/25/02
High tides and winds gusting to 30 mph hampered fishing today - there were a few people out in boats but no reports of fish being caught. There were some nice reds caught again today at the bridge.
Tuesday
09/24/02
The Guides' Cup fishing tournament was supposed to be held today but it was cancelled because of the winds. No fishing report was available for today. However I saw some really nice reds being caught down at the pontoon bridge this evening in Matagorda. The surf is really rough and the tide is up again - over the road in spots on the way to the beach.
Monday
09/23/02
Very little fishing news for today. Only a few brave souls ventured out this morning. There were some small trout and reds caught in Oyster Lake using Norton Sand Eels in a tequila gold color and Top Dogs in black/chartreuse - also some nice keeper trout and reds along with a few flounder.
Sunday
09/22/02
In East Matagorda Bay the birds weren't working today. Pickings were pretty slim. However, wadefishermen and drift fishermen along the north shoreline were able to catch some trout using artificials. There were a few whiting and sand trout caught in the river, too.
Saturday
09/21/02
Fishing was good offshore today. There were lots of red snapper and amberjack brought in. There were also big drum, sand trout, and whiting being caught in the river and at the jetties area. East Matagorda Bay was good for fishing under the birds for trout and for drifting areas over scattered shell.
Friday
09/20/02
In East Matagorda Bay the fishing was pretty good for fishermen who were drifting under the birds along the north shoreline - they were able to bring home fair numbers of small trout (15 to 18 inches) using artificials such as Norton Sand Eel Jr. in a Tequila Gold color. Also, there were reports of flounder being caught at Old Gulf Cut using live shrimp. A little windy today, but not too rough to be in the bay.
Thursday
09/19/02
Today wasn't as good as it was yesterday. Out in East Matagorda there were some trout caught wadefishing along the south shoreline and drifting over scattered shell using a combination Bass Assassins and live bait. In West Matagorda Bay there were some trout caught around the Green's Bayou area using soft plastics - Bass Assassins.
Wednesday
09/18/02
East Matagorda Bay was fair to good for catching trout under the birds using topwaters like She-Dogs. Some wadefishermen were able to catch a few, but the wind picked upsome today and put a damper on the fishing. There were also a few trout and reds caught in the Green's Bayou area using artificials like Norton Sand Eels, etc.
Tuesday
09/17/02
If the rains ever stop, fishing might get right! There were quite a few people out fishing today in between showers. There were some trout and reds brought in from East Matagorda Bay, caught on live shrimp over scattered shell and in the cuts again. If you come fishing, be sure to bring mosquito repellent! 8-)
Monday
09/16/02
East Matagorda Bay produced trout - drifting over scattered shell using artificials and live shrimp under a popping cork. The cuts leading into East Matagorda Bay- Old Gulf Cut and Boggy Cut - were good for flounder and redfish using live shrimp under a popping cork.

09/15/02
No fishing report today - weather was bad.
Saturday
09/14/02
Another great day for trout and reds in East Matagorda Bay for those who fished under the birds or drifted over scattered shell! Along the south shoreline wadefishing was real good, too. Some of the trout caught in East Matagorda Bay today were in the range of 26-27 inches. There were some nice specks caught off the jetties today using live shrimp. Oyster Lake is real good for redfish now - drifting using live shrimp and topwaters.
Thursday
09/12/02
Another great day in East Matagorda Bay - all over! Lots of trout were being caught by drifting under the birds, wading on the south shoreline, or just drifting over scattered shell reefs. Live shrimp under a popping cork and soft plastics were the baits of choice. There were also trout and reds being caught at the fishing pier at the beach usings live and dead shrimp or cut bait. It's time for you to come fishing!
Wednesday
09/11/02
Wow - East Matagorda Bay is heating up! Fishing under the birds is great - lots of limits of trout using limetreuse Bass Assassins and jalopeno Norton Sand Eels. Over in Oyster Lake there were redfish being caught on redfish-colored Skitter Walkers and trout being caught on black She-Dogs with a chartreuse head. Good Day!
Tuesday
09/10/02
Fishing is still improving down here. There were some redfish, trout, and flounder caught in scattered locations over in East Matagorda Bay. Tides are still running high and the wind is strong out of the northeast.
Monday
09/09/02

Fishing is picking up a little bit. We did hear of some redfish being caught in Boggy Lake (down Intracoastal Waterway eastward). Wind is a little better, although we did have a lot of rain this morning. Hopefully, the wind will switch around to the northeast and help the tides get back to normal.

By the way, I've had a request to start putting the newsletter out on Wednesday night instead of Thursday, so I'm going to give it a try for a couple of weeks to see how it works out.

Sunday
09/08/02
Fishing continues to be poor to non-existent down here. Today was worse than Friday or Saturday in terms of wind and rain. A very strong easterly wind is blowing - this is causing the above normal tides to be even higher as the wind blows the water. From the road going to the beach we could see big whitecaps out in East Matagorda Bay. It looked like the wave action at the beach! We did see more people out fishing today in areas that can be reached by automobiles. However, late this evening as the sun came out, we saw several boats put in at Matagorda Harbor and head east....but they were tougher than us. It looks like this trend will continue for a couple of days.
Saturday
09/07/02
When we went to bed last night, we expected to wake up right in the middle of a full-fledged storm. Instead, I woke up at 4 a.m., looked out the window and saw...no rain and only a little wind. Altogether, we had 1.5 inches of rain here in Matagorda and no problem from the wind. North and east of us, though, was another story. We heard that Sweeny had 22 inches of rain. The Churchill, Lake Jackson, and Freeport areas seem to have had quite of bit of rain and wind. But, the excitement's over, and back to regular fishing reports tomorrow. The only shots I got of water were of areas around Sweeny. Click here to look...
Friday
09/06/02
High tides, wind, rain, pontoon bridge closed to thru traffic - more to come. Winds are gusting to 30 mph tonight with lots of lightning and thunder in the distance. Looks like Fay's gonna knock at our front door!
Thursday
09/05/02
No fishing report because of the rough wind/surf conditions and the storm brewing in the Gulf.
Wednesday
09/04/02
No fishing report - looks like the "stir-up" in the gulf is going to put a damper on fishing for a few days.
Tuesday
09/03/02
Rainy and windy today - however, I did have a report of a few nice stringers of trout coming out of East Matagorda Bay today - wadefishing using topwaters and Bass Assassins.
Monday
09/02/02
Poor fishing today - windy conditions kept fishing to a minimum.
Sunday
09/01/02
Well, the wind picked up today...and it rained for awhile. So, it wasn't as good a day for fishing as it was yesterday. Before the wind picked up, there were some reds caught on the east end of West Matagorda Bay around the South Pocket area. Down the beach there were only scattered catches of trout and reds in the surf today. East Matagorda Bay was not in real good shape with the east wind blowing - tore it up - and there were only a few catches of trout reported. Oyster Lake was fair, though -- catches of reds and trout on live shrimp under a popping cork.
