They're
tearin' them up in East Matagorda Bay! Lots
of trout and redfish - wadfishing and drifting
under the birds -- use live shrimp and artificials.
Flounder are being caught near the locks on
finger mullet. |

|
No
report for West Matagorda Bay. The wind is
out of the east and the birds aren't working.
In East Matagorda Bay trout are being caught
with topwater lures - pumpkinseed and red
with chartreuse or white tails. Flounder are
also being caught in East Bay on speck rigs
and live mullet. On Oyster Lake reds are being
caught on the same baits. |
|
10/29/01
|
In
East Matagorda Bay fishing was so-so. Some
trout were being caught under the birds with
live bait. In Oyster Lake fishing was fair
for reds - drifting under the birds using
live bait -- and some trout were also caught.
All in all, it wasn't a REAL good fishing
day because the wind has made the water murky. |
|
10/28/01
|
Few
fish were caught today -- mostly reds and
a few trout in Oyster Lake on live shrimp
and other live bait. |
|
10/27/01
|
Both
bays were choppy and muddy because of the
wind. A few fish - trout, redfish, and flounder
- were caught in West Matagorda Bay and Oyster
Lake on artificial baits. |
|

|
Fishing
was SO bad today (because of the wind) that
there is no fishing report... |
|
10/25/01
|
Only
the most stout-hearted went fishing today.
However, the fish-cleaning table at Matagorda
Harbor stood clean and quiet all day....The
wind is still messing things up! |
|
10/24/01
|
Fishing
in East Matagorda Bay today was fair -- trout
could be caught drifting under the birds using
live shrimp. Some fish were caught by wade
fishing on the south shoreline. During the
day, the wind picked up out of the southwest,
though, and tore up the bay. |
|
10/23/01
|
In
East Matagorda Bay trout are still being caught
by drifting under the birds. Wadefishing is
producing some trout and reds along the south
shoreline. Everything's being caught on both
live shrimp and artificial bait. No report
from West Matagorda Bay or offshore. |
|

|
In
East Matagorda Bay fishermen are still bagging
trout and some redfish by drifting under the
birds using artificials and live shrimp. The
south shoreline of East Bay is producing some
nice reds and trout for wade fishermen who
are using artificial baits. Offshore was very
rough today. |
|
10/21/01
|
Today
was calm everywhere. The bays were slick like
mirrors. In East Matagorda Bay trout were
being caught by drifting under the birds.
In West Bay some trout could be caught by
following and fishing under the birds and
redfish were being caught on the north shoreline.
Fishing offshore should have been great again
today because of the calm. |
|
10/20/01
|
In
East Bay it can be summed up easily - birds,
birds, birds! A few trout were also being
caught in West Matagorda Bay, too. It was
very crowded today, though, because of the
fishing tournament going on. Offshore was
producing limits of red snapper. |
|
10/19/01
|
In
West Matagorda Bay trout and reds were being
pulled in down by the Diversion Channel. In
East Matagorda Bay, fishing under the birds
produced reds and trout. Wading on the south
shoreline produced mainly reds. Live shrimp
under a popping cork and topwater lures --
red and white, dark with chartreuse tail,
and electric blue -- were good choices. Weather
is supposed to be beautiful until Wednesday
with the wind out of the south at 2-5 mph. |
|
10/18/01
|
In East
Matagorda Bay trout and redfish are being
caught by drifting under the birds and by
drifting over scattered shell areas. They're
biting on live and artificials. No report
from West Bay because everyone's fishing East
Bay while it's hoppin'. Offshore fishing is
producing nice red snapper right now. |
|
10/17/01
|
Only
a few reports of trout being caught under
the birds today in East Bay -- not many fishermen
out today because of the wind. |
|
10/16/01
|
BAD ...
BAD ... BAD ... Wind was blowing a gale today
-- no one went fishing. |
|
10/15/01
|
Fishing
today wasn't quite as good as it was yesterday.
Trout and redfish can still be caught under
the birds with live bait and artificials in
East and West Matagorda Bays -- but fishing
seems to be better in East Bay than West Bay.
Good luck! |
|
10/14/01
|
In East Matagorda
Bay fishermen were catching trout by working
the birds out in the middle of the bay
using live shrimp, red Texas Troutkillers
with white tails, and electric-blue Texas
Troutkillers with chartreuse tails --
before the wind picked up. Not much luck
after the wind started to blow. For most
people it was too rough to fish West Matagorda
Bay today. The wind started to blow around
3:30 p.m. and hasn't stopped yet, but
it is sunny and pretty.

|
10/13/01
|
In East
Matagorda Bay a few fish were being caught
under the birds on artificial and live bait.
No report from West Matagorda Bay. Fishing
was not good today because of the wind and
our storm last night and this morning. |

All good
news today! Fishing is still great! Trout,
redfish, and flounder are being caught in
East Matagorda Bay on artificials and live
bait. The south shoreline of West Bay is still
producing fish. Drift fishing and wade fishing
are both excellent. Plenty of live bait is
available at Skipper's Bait and Tackle, so
plan to fish this weekend! |

Fishing
in East Matagorda Bay is great! People were
bringing in trout, redfish, and some flounder
all day from East Bay. About half of the fish
were caught on live bait and the other half
were caught on artificials. Trout, redfish,
and flounder were being caught on the south
shoreline of West Bay using artificials and
live bait. People were catching fish in various
cuts on mud minnows and live mullet. The weather
was good but a little windy until this evening
when a storm started brewing. |

|
In East
Matagorda Bay trout are still being caught
drift fishing under the birds using soft plastics
and live shrimp. Some wade fishing has been
productive, but drift fishing under the birds
provides the best opportunities. We had a
report that fishermen were having good luck
with drift fishing in Oyster Lake -- catching
redfish on topwater artificials. Live bait
is available. West Matagorda Bay fishing is
very slow -- East Bay is the hot spot these
days. |

A few
trout were being caught under the birds today
on the northeast end of East Matagorda Bay.
In the Diversion Channel some reds and flounder
were being caught on artificials and finger
mullet. Nice red snapper were being brought
in from offshore. Fish were probably being
caught somewhere in West Bay, but no one has
heard about it! |
|
10/06/01
|
Some
redfish were brought in from the Diversion
Channel, and small trout were being caught
in the river. We also had a report of reds
being caught in Oyster Lake. The wind was
out of the northeast blowing hard, so that
made fishing tough today. Looks better for
tomorrow! |

Also, trout and reds are being caught on the

Fishing
was GREAT today in East Matagorda Bay -- fishing
under the birds and drifting the shell reefs
produced limits of trout! In West Matagorda
Bay big trout were being caught on live shrimp
around the oilwells out in the big bay. Excellent
day of fishing for anyone willing to "wet
a hook"! |
