The
wind switched around and started coming out
of the southeast during the night. It was
a good day to fish -- sunny and bays were
fairly slick. Fishing picked up around noon
and there were some fair catches of trout
and a few redfish along the south shoreline
of East Matagorda Bay. |
| 11/29/01 |
The
weather is still keeping everyone out of the
bays, so no fishing report again today - but
things are looking up for the weekend, so
come on down! |
| 11/28/01 |
Weather
not fit for man nor fish -- no fishing report
today... |
| 11/27/01 |
Bummer!
No fishing report today -- the weather was
(still is) very bad, and no one went fishing. |
|
11/26/01
|
A
few trout were caught today in East Matagorda
Bay by wadefishing along the south shoreline
or drifting over scattered shell. Not many
fishermen went out today, though. |

|
In East Matagorda
Bay this morning was real good -- then
the wind got up this afternoon. Until
then, though, drifting under the birds
and wadefishing along the south shoreline
using live bait and artificials produced
trout and some reds. In West Matagorda
Bay the south shoreline prodcued some
reds and trout on live bait. At the jetties
some bull reds were caught on cut mullet
and sheephead on dead shrimp.

East
Matagorda Bay is still pretty hot right now
for catching speckled trout on artificials
or live shrimp -- drifting or wading along
the south shoreline, under birds or over scattered
shell, but it's not producing any redfish.
West Matagorda Bay is producing some reds
along the south shoreline using live shrimp
and artificial bait. At the pier on Matagorda
Beach some bull reds are being caught on cut
mullet and sheephead on dead shrimp. There
was a report of someone catching a large flounder
in the surf today -- kinda unusual. For the
most part, though, the surf is still too rough
but it's starting to calm. |
|

|
Lots
of trout caught today in East Matagorda Bay.
Fishing was good enough that you could pretty
well catch them where you wanted -- under
the birds, wading along the south shoreline,
or drifting over scattered shell -- all those
places were real good! At the jetties people
were catching reds and sheephead on dead shrimp.
The mouth of the river was good for catching
flounder using live shrimp or live mullet.
Redfish were being caught in Oyster Lake.
West Matagorda Bay was the only place that
no one was bragging about. |
| 11/22/01 |
Not
much of a fishing report today -- most people
were home spending time with their families
on the holiday. A few went out, though, and
caught decent stringers of trout under the
birds in East Maagorda Bay. Others caught
a few redfish and some sheepshead at the pier
on Matagorda Beach using dead shrimp. |
|

|
East
Matagorda Bay is where it's at right now!
Drifting under scattered shell and under diving
birds still seems to prove the most consistent
plan for catching trout. Use artificial bait
such as trout killers and Norton sandeels
-- in red/white, pumpkinseed w/ chartreuse
tail, etc. Whiting and redfish are being
caught on live shrimp and cut mullet in the
surf at Matagorda Beach. |
|
11/20/01
|
A
few boats were out late this evening, but
as far as we know, no one went fishing today.
The wind slacked off a lot during the day. |
|
11/19/01
|
Good
fishing -- drifting over scattered shell on
the west end of East Matagorda Bay -- catching
trout and reds! Wadefishing was productive
in spots in the southeast part of East Matagorda
Bay. No report from West Bay or the jetty
pier. |
|

|
In
East Matagorda Bay fair catches of trout and
reds were caught by drifting over scattered
shell using artificial baits. A few reds were
caught around the reefs in West Matagorda
Bay. The pier at the jetties produced some
reds and big sheephead caught on live shrimp.
There are still flounder being caught at the
locks using live finger mullet. |
|

|
What
a beautiful day here in Matagorda! Fishing
was fair -- not as good as last week but had
a few fair catches of trout and redfish drifting
under the birds in East Matagorda Bay. The
locks, however, were great for flounder fishing,
using live finger mullet for bait. |
|

|
Wow
- what a day! The wind was blowing and it
rained all day. Very few people went out and
we had very few reports of fish being caught.
Tomorrow may be a little better - it should
be partly cloudy, in the mid 70s, but the
wind will be out of the east at about 10 mph.
So, come on down and give it a shot! |
|
11/15/01
|
Not
a real good fishing -- East Bay produced a
few trout and reds by drifting over scattered
shell on the south shoreline. Wind out of
the ESE really had the bay messed up. In West
Matagorda Bay there were some trout and redfish
caught by wading along the south shoreline,
but again, the wind was messing the water
up. No report from Matagorda Beach because
of the wind. Wind should keep blowing like
this for a couple of days. |
|
11/14/01
|
Drift-fishing
over scattered shell produced some trout and
redfish again today in East Matagorda Bay.
Some wade-fishing on the south shoreline produced
catches of trout. In West Matagorda Bay wade-fishing
along the south shoreline again produced trout
-- and some redfish. |
|
11/13/01
|
In
East Matagorda Bay most trout were being caught
by drifting over scattered shell using artificial
baits such as Texas Trout Killer in the red/white
combination. There were a few trout caught
under the birds, but not many because there
weren't many birds out in the bay. In West
Bay the south shoreline was the "ticket"
for wadefishing for trout and redfish. |

|
In
East Matagorda Bay some trout were caught
under the birds; some trout and reds caught
by drifting over scattered shell using artificial
bait. West Matagorda Bay produced trout and
reds on the south shoreline by wade fishing. |

|
In
East Matagorda Bay wade-fishing and drift-fishing
under the birds produced moderate trout and
redfish. Trout and redfish were caught in
West Matagorda Bay when drifting under the
birds along the south shoreline. Live shrimp
and artificials were the baits of choice in
both bays. Offshore fishing produced nice
catches of red snapper and ling. Bull reds
are still being caught in the surf at Matagorda
Beach using cut bait such as mullet. The pier
is still producing whiting when using fresh
dead bait or squid. |
|
11/10/01
|
A
good of fishing all over! Redfish, whiting
and lots of sand trout were caught at the
jetties on the pier. Boats anchored at the
end of the jetties were catching redfish,
too. Bull reds were charging up and down the
surf and were being caught by several fishermen.
The reds were being caught on cut bait, and
the sand trout were being caught on live and
dead shrimp. Skipper's Bait and Tackle reports
that East Matagorda Bay was producing an even
blend of trout and reds -- drifting under
the birds or wading on the south shoreline
seemed to be the "silver bullet"
today. In West Bay redfish and trout were
caught around Greens Bayou area. |
|
11/09/01
|
Fishing
today wasn't as good as it was yesterday.
Drifting under the birds in East Matagorda
Bay is still producing some trout. There was
an 8 lb. 11 oz. flounder caught at the locks
today. |
|
11/08/01
|
East
Matagorda Bay is HOT! Lots of trout and redfish
to be had by drifting under the birds using
live and artificial baits. West Matagorda
Bay produced limits of trout by drifting over
shell reefs along the north shore. |
|
11/07/01
|
Trout
caught today in East Matagorda Bay under the
birds; red with white tails and pumpkinseed
are good colors for artificials right now.
Red snapper limits brought in from offshore. |
|
11/06/01
|
In
East Matagorda Bay drifting under the birds
and across scattered oystershell was producing
limits of trout and reds using artificials
and live bait. A good day to fish! |
|
11/05/01
|
In
East Matagorda Bay drifting under the birds
produced a few trout; however, the east wind
again had the bay torn up, so fishing was
not real good. |
|
11/04/01
|
Wow!
The wind was really blowing out of the east
today and fishing went downhill. Lots of people
were fishing out in East Bay, and it became
crowded early. Few birds were working, and
"trout" pickings were slim. West
Matagorda Bay was not any better. Oyster Lake
did produce a few nice redfish and trout.
All in all, nothing was consistent -- a few
fish caught "here and there" all
day. |
|
11/03/01
|
Fishing
in East Matagorda Bay today was just about
the same as yesterday -- really good and
worth coming out for. West Bay is producing
some trout under the birds. Oyster Lake
is proving good for redfish.
|
|
11/02/01
|
In
East Matagorda Bay trout and reds were being
caught while drifting under the birds using
artificial baits like Bassassassins and Texas
Trout Killers which were red with a white
tail. Some trout were also being caught while
drifting over scattered oyster reefs. No report
from West Matagorda Bay. |
|
11/01/01
|
Limits
of redfish and trout were being brought in
from East Matagorda Bay today. They were caught
on popping corks with live shrimp and blue/white,
salt/pepper, and red/white Texas TroutKillers
by driftfishing and working the birds out
in the middle of the bay. |
