Fishing
was bad today -- the wind was strong out of
the NNE with gusts to 20 mph and it was cold!
Only a couple of fishermen ventured out today,
but we had no reports of fish being caught. |

|
East
Matagorda Bay produced a few trout and redfish
for the "stout at heart" today.
The weather was cloudy, cold, and windy, though,
so not many fishermen went out. Down at the
pier on the beach bull redfish were being
caught, sheephead were caught in the river,
and a few trout were caught in the Diversion
Channel. |
|

|
East
Matagorda Bay there were some trout caught
on the north shoreline -- drifting over scattered
oyster reefs -- using artificial baits. No
live bait was available. There were some reports
of trout being caught in the Diversion Channel.
At the fishing pier sand trout, black drum
and whiting were being caught on dead shrimp.
There was a report of some black drum being
caught in the river on dead shrimp. |

|
There
weren't a lot of people out fishing today.
This morning was real foggy in spots. By midmorning,
though, the fog had lifted, and trout and
redfish could be caught in East Bay by drifting
over scattered shell using artificials because
live shrimp wasn't available. This afternoon
proved to be fair for catching trout. |
|

|
Fishing
was real slow today in East Matagorda Bay.
Fishermen were catching whiting at the pier
down at the beach. |
|
12/26/01
|
Fishing
reports were few and far between today. Rawlings
Bait Camp had no information. Matagorda Harbor
advised us that very few fishermen had been
going out -- and no reports of fish being
caught because of the northerly winds. |

Fishing
was great in East Matagorda Bay today! Fishermen
were coming in with really nice stringers
of trout and redfish. The birds were working
all over the bay, and drifting under them
using artificial and live bait was all you
needed to do! Down at the pier, a variety
of fish were caught using fresh dead shrimp.
The surf was very rough today, though. |

|
Pretty
good day of fishing today! This morning in
East Matagorda Bay the birds were working,
and people were able to catch some nice stringers
of trout and a few redfish by fishing under
them. After noon, the best fishing was over
scattered reefs/shell using artificials and
live shrimp. Down at the pier on the beach,
people were catching whiting, sheepshead,
sand trout, a few redfish, and some small
flounder -- fresh dead shrimp for bait. |
|

|
Few
people went fishing today -- and it was mostly
hit and miss for those who went. Your best
bet is to try drifting over scattered shell
or under birds using pumpkinseed/chartreuse
or red/white Bass Assassins or some similar
soft plastic bait. |
|
12/19/01
|
Not
a good fishing day today. A few boats went
out -- and some came home with only a few
trout, and some came home empty-handed. The
wind was really blowing hard today. |
|

|
In
East Matagorda Bay nice stringers of trout
and redfish were caught by fishermen who drifted
under the birds and over the reefs - they
were using artificials such as rootbeer and
pumpkinseed Bass Assassins.Fishing was much
better in the early afternoon than in the
morning. One fisherman said he fished "all
over the bay" and caught fish. So it
looks like any spot will work as well as another.
It looks like the wind will be out of the
north tomorrow -- so the west end of the bay
looks good, as well as drifting in the usual
spots. |
|

|
Fishing
must have been good somewhere today....but
not in Matagorda. The sun was shining and
the weather was nice, but the wind was blowing
a gale! I only saw two boats out today, but
noneIt of the "old salts" went.
|

|
So,
how many of you die-hard fishermen went out
today? Not many! But you should have. The
fishing was a little slow this morning, but
it picked up quite a bit this afternoon. Those
who went were able to catch nice stringers
of trout and some redfish in East Matagorda
Bay by drifting under the birds and over scattered
shell reefs like 3 Beacon Reef and similar
reefs in the west half of East Bay. The wind
should pick up tonight and come around from
the northwest at 15-20 mph tonight, making
tomorrow a breezy day. |
|
12/15/01
|
East
Bay was so-so today -- south shoreline was
the best bet for the day -- catching some
trout and redfish drifting and wadefishing.
On the pier people were catching whiting,
and in the surf they were catching black drum.
The wind got pretty bad after lunch, though,
so fishing went downhill. |
|

|
Fishing
is great in East Matagorda Bay right now and
should continue for the next couple days if
the weather holds. Fishermen today easily
caught limits of trout and redfish by drifting
over scattered shell and working the birds
on the west end of the bay. Fish are still
liking the soft plastics such as Bass Assassins
and Norton Sand Eels in pumpkinseed and rootbeer.
Bull reds were being caught in the surf today.
Whiting and sheepshead were being caught at
the jetties. Early morning and late afternoon
seems to be the best times. |
|

|
Only
one fisherman that I know of -- Capt. Charlie
Paradoski -- went out fishing today! He went
to East Matagorda Bay and drifted along the
south shoreline using soft plastics like pumpkinseed
color and LIMITED OUT ON TROUT AND REDS! But
that's not unusual -- Charlie ALWAYS gets
his fish! |
|
12/12/01
|
No
fishermen out today. |
|
12/11/01
|
Not
many people went out fishing today, BUT --
the ones who did go limited out in East Matagorda
Bay fishing under the birds with soft plastics.
The trout being caught under the birds were
big fish -- the ones being thrown back were
18 inches or better, so the keepers must have
been big ones! |
|
12/10/01
|
Good
fishing today. The birds in East Matagorda
Bay are still holding up, and fishing under
them produces nice catches of trout and reds
using soft plastics such as Bass Assassins,
Norton Sand Eels, etc. There was one report
of trout being caught in West Matagorda Bay,
but no location was given. No report from
he beach today. |
|
12/09/01
|
No
report from the beach or pier today. A couple
of boats went out into East Bay, but no report
from them. I had a report that someone caught
a 40-inch channel catfish in the Diversion
Channel this weekend. I hope to have a picture
tomorrow. |
|
12/08/01
|
Not
much of a fishing report today -- the weather
was bad all day -- windy and rainy. Two people
did go out early this morning and limited
out on trout by drifting under the birds.
Sailabration was cancelled until tomorrow
night. |
|

|
A
beautiful day for fishing! Trout and redfish
were biting in East Matagorda Bay using the
ole' standard of artificial bait or live shrimp
-- both seem to work. Drifting over scattered
shell and wadefishing along the south shoreline
produced some nice stringers. At the beach,
bull reds were in the surf and being caught
on live mullet. On the pier people were catching
whiting and sheepshead. Wind should pick up
and start coming out of the north tonight.
The west end of East Matagorda Bay and the
north shoreline should be good bets this weekend. |
|
12/06/01
|
Not
many fishermen went out today. I think the
threat of rain kept them at home. However,
those who did go to East Matagorda Bay went
home with fair catches of trout and redfish
which were caught on artificials and live
shrimp -- drifting over scattered shell and
wading was the way to go today. On the fishing
pier at the beach, croaker, whiting, sheepshead,
and some reds were being caught on dead shrimp,
cut mullet, and squid. Down the beach surf
fishermen were catching big croaker. |
|
12/05/01
|
The
birds are still showing up in East Matagorda
Bay and the trout and redfish are still following
them -- so the best fishing is still found
by drifting under them. |
|
12/04/01
|
In
East Matagorda Bay trout and redfish were
caught drifting under the birds(seagulls and
pelicans). They were biting on artificials
and live shrimp -- however, today they seemed
to favor live shrimp over artificial bait.

|
In
East Matagorda Bay fishing was real good today
- lots of trout and some redfish caught by
drifting under the birds and under scattered
shell using soft plastics such as Bass Assassins
or Norton Sand Eels. There was a 29-inch,
7 lb. 7 oz. speckled trout caught today in
East Bay by someone who was drifting under
the birds.. |

|
Well,
it's all ups and downs -- that's what the
weather is doing for our fishing! A few die-hards
went out this morning but were quickly chased
back in by wind and rain. It should start
clearing up tomorrow. |
|

|
Fishing
has picked up again! There were reports of
nice catches of trout from East Matagorda
Bay - drifting under the birds along the south
shoreline was very productive. At the beach,
people were catching redfish, whiting, sheepshead,
and black drum off the pier using dead and
live shrimp. |
