12/31/02 |
On Monday the weather
was starting to get bad. Few fishermen went out because of the
weather. The weather became horrible on Monday night, turning
so windy today that it kept fishermen at home. The winds should
begin to slack off, making this weekend have favorable winds,
however. |
Sunday
12/29/02 |
In East Matagorda Bay fishing
was a little bit better today. There were some nice limits of
trout caught by drifting over scattered shell on the mid-bay
reefs on the west end of the bay. There were also some reports
of redfish and flounder being caught in the same area. |
Saturday
12/28/02 |
East Matagorda Bay had fair
fishing today using soft plastics and other artificials for
bait - there ware trout, flounder and some reds brought in from
areas on the west end of the bay and the mid-bay reef areas.
There wasn't much tidal action today, though, and feeding was
slow. Lots of people, though, went fishing. At the jetties there
were reports of large-sized black drum being brought in using
cut bait. |
Friday
12/27/02 |
In East Matagorda Bay there
was another slow day of fishing. A lot of people went out, but
there were only a few trout and reds caught by drifting over
scattered shell. In West Matagorda Bay there were redfish caught
in the Shell Island area along the north shoreline. At the jetties
big reds and big drum were brought in using cut bait. |
Thursday
12/26/02 |
It was pretty chilly out in
the bays today. There were some fishermen who braved the chill,
though. Trout and reds were caught in East Matagorda Bay on
the southwest end -- drift fishing over scattered shell over
the mid-bay reefs such as Raymond Shoals area -- using Bass
Assassins and other soft plastics. |
Monday
12/23/02 |
Well, it was not a good fishing
day down here. It was real windy today and I only saw two
boats go out. Personally, I think everyone was at Walmart!
8-) Fishing reports will resume on Thursday, December 26.
You guys all have a very Merry Christmas -- I hope you all
get new rods and reels from Santa -- maybe even a new boat!!!! |
Sunday
12/22/02 |
Fishing today was pretty slow.
Over in East Matagorda Bay there were a few trout caught by
drifting over scattered shell reefs in mid-bay. The fog never
cleared all the way out of the bay, though, so it kept many
fishermen from going out. |
Saturday
12/21/02 |
Slow day of fishing here in
Matagorda - quite a few people went out but few fish were brought
in. |
Friday
12/20/02 |
In East Matagorda Bay there
were some nice trout and reds caught by drifting over deeper
scattered shell in the west end of the bay. We had reports from
West Matagorda Bay that there were some trout and reds caught
in the Shell Island area on the north side of the bay. Baits
of choice - soft plastics- red shad, morning glory with chartreuse
tail. |
Thursday
12/19/02 |
East Matagorda Bay had a northwest
wind blowing strong today....but.....there were a few brave
fishermen who went out. They came in with a fair amount of trout
- some of the trout were in the 25"-26" range. Drifting
over scattered shell on the west end of the bay was the most
productive, using Bass Assassins in red shad and avocado with
a red tail. |
| Wednesday
12/18/02 |
Tore 'em up today! In East Matagorda
Bay it was a little windy but there were limits of trout caught
by drifting over scattered shell in mid-bay and on the west
end of the bay. Bass Assassins proved to be a good choice for
bait - red shad, morning glory colors. |
| Tuesday
12/17/02 |
There was a fair amount of trout
caught by drifting over scattered shell on the west end of East
Matagorda Bay today using soft plastics or Mirrolures for biat.
There were some flounder caught over the reefs on the west end
of East Matagorda Bay and around Old Gulf Cut. |
| Monday
12/09/02 |
No fishing report today
because of the wind and rain. There will be no fishing reports
posted for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week because
I will be in the hospital for a few days. Reports should resume
on Friday, though.
From December 9 to December
20, there will be divers working at the Colorado River Locks.
The locks may be closed for as long as 10 hours at a time. |
Sunday
12/08/02 |
Very slow day of fishing - overcast,
windy and rain started this evening. Few fishermen went out
and we could get no reports of fish being caught. |
Saturday
12/07/02 |
We had a pretty slow day of
fishing here in Matagorda. There was a strong east wind blowing
for most of the day. There were a few sheephead caught at the
jetties on dead bait, and over in East Matagorda Bay there were
some trout and reds caught by wading and drifting fishing. |
Friday
12/06/02 |
Wading and drifting in East
Matagorda Bay along the north and west shorelines of the bay
today produced some nice catches of trout using artificials
such as corkies and soft plastics. |
Thursday
12/05/02 |
Not much going on down here
in Matagorda - still windy and cold. Looks like it will warm
up some for the weekend, though. |
Wednesday
12/04/02 |
Rainy........cold...........windy! |
Tuesday
12/03/02 |
East Matagorda Bay again! There
were a few trout caught by wadefishermen this morning along
the south shoreline. The rain forced everyone back to the harbor
about noon, but the sun was out again by early afternoon, and
the birds were working everywhere in the bay. Drifting under
the birds produced lots of trout this afternoon. Over in West
Matagorda Bay there were trout and reds caught along the south
shoreline, but not as many as were caught in East Matagorda
Bay. |
Monday
12/02/02 |
East Matagorda Bay had limits
of trout caught by wadefishermen using artificials along the
north shoreline on the east end of the bay. Over in West Matagorda
Bay a few trout and reds were caught along the south shoreline
near the Green's Bayou area using artificials. I had a report
of some trout being caught at night up the Colorado River.
The water is starting to clear up near Selkirk, but there
is no bait working yet.
From December 9 to December
20, there will be divers working at the Colorado River Locks.
I'm not sure how this will affect going over to West Matagorda
Bay, but I will find out and post on this page. |
Sunday
12/01/02 |
East Matagorda Bay produced
some trout and reds for wadefishermen and drift fishermen down
on the east end of the bay. West Matagorda Bay was good for
some nice reds along the south shoreline using artificials.
There weren't as many fishermen out today, presumably because
they all headed home today. There are still reds and bull reds
being caught down the beach in the surf using cut mullet for
bait. |
