...where fishing meets the net

Happy New Year!

Fishing has been "slim pickin's" down here this week because of the weather. It's been cold and windy -- keeping everyone from going out fishing. However, I hear people saying that the Diversion Channel is starting to pick up, and that means that fishing in the river may be improving if the water continues to clear up. I think your best bet in the bays is to fish deep and slow with your artificial baits -- and do your fishing around the reefs where the shell turns to mud.

Good luck -- and drop me a line or send me a picture if you have a good fishing day!

Fishing Report

1/3/02
Unable to obtain fishing report today because of the weather, but I did hear of a few trout being caught in the Diversion Channel.

It looks like the cold weather is still keeping the fishermen at home- I only saw two boats go out today, and they were oystermen. So, it looks like no fishing report until the weather warms a little.

Fishing reports over the holidays have been few and far between. The holidays have slowed everything down, and the weather has been windy and cold. So there have been few boats going out fishing -- and no reports from those that do. Hopefully, things will get back to normal -- and so will the fishing reports.

12/31/01
Fishing was bad today -- the wind was strong out of the NNE with gusts to 20 mph and it was cold! Only a couple of fishermen ventured out today, but we had no reports of fish being caught.

12/30/01
East Matagorda Bay produced a few trout and redfish for the "stout at heart" today. The weather was cloudy, cold, and windy, though, so not many fishermen went out. Down at the pier on the beach bull redfish were being caught, sheephead were caught in the river, and a few trout were caught in the Diversion Channel.

12/29/01
East Matagorda Bay there were some trout caught on the north shoreline -- drifting over scattered oyster reefs -- using artificial baits. No live bait was available. There were some reports of trout being caught in the Diversion Channel. At the fishing pier sand trout, black drum and whiting were being caught on dead shrimp. There was a report of some black drum being caught in the river on dead shrimp.

There weren't a lot of people out fishing today. This morning was real foggy in spots. By midmorning, though, the fog had lifted, and trout and redfish could be caught in East Bay by drifting over scattered shell using artificials because live shrimp wasn't available. This afternoon proved to be fair for catching trout.

12/27/01
Fishing was real slow today in East Matagorda Bay. Fishermen were catching whiting at the pier down at the beach.

Fishing reports were few and far between today. Rawlings Bait Camp had no information. Matagorda Harbor advised us that very few fishermen had been going out -- and no reports of fish being caught because of the northerly winds.
