...where fishing meets the net

Well, the weather turned bad today, but it looks like it may improve a little for the weekend. The wind should be out of the north @ 15+ mph tomorrow and switch around on Saturday and come out of the northeast @ 10 mph which would make Old Gulf Cut a good fishing spot. Friday morning, Saturday afternoon, and Sunday morning should be good times to "wet your hook". So, good luck -- and just think -- spring will be here before you know it. These slack fishing times are good times to get your gear ready!

See you next week,

--------------------------------
1/31/02
There were a few trout caught in East Matagorda Bay along the south shoreline -- but the weather turned nasty and kept people from going out.

1/30/02
In East Matagorda Bay a fair amount of trout were caught by drifting over scattered shell on the west end using soft plastics. Wind was exceptionally high, the bay was "tore up" and kept people from going out in the bays.

1/29/02
In West Matagorda Bay there were trout and redfish caught on the south shoreline by wadefishermen using soft plastics. Flounder and a few trout were caught in the Diversion Channel using artificial bait. A few trout are still being caught in East Matagorda Bay . Surf fishermen caught a fair amount of whiting on the beach.

1/28/02
In East Matagorda Bay fishermen were limiting out on trout -- drifting over scattered shell on the west end of the bay using soft plastics. It was real foggy on the bay all day, so there weren't a lot of fishermen out.

1/27/02
In East Matagorda Bay some trout were caught along the south shoreline by wadefishing, using soft plastics for bait. In the Diversion Channel, redfish were caught on crabs and shrimp. At the fishing pier on the beach a few black drum were caught. Offshore fishermen reported nice catches of red snapper, ling and redfish -- these were being caught at the first rigs offshore.

1/26/02
Fishing was a little better today. In East Matagorda Bay there were some trout caught by drifting over scattered shell on the west end of the bay using Corkies. We had a report of redfish being caught on cut-up crab in the Diversion Channel. At the pier on the beach fishermen were catching black drum on dead shrimp.

1/25/02
It was a slow day today. Very few people went out. There were a few reports of trout being caught along the north shoreline in East Matagorda Bay. We also heard of a few whiting caught down at the pier on the beach. We should be coming up on a good weekend, though, with good fishing around midday.
