In the Bay
The moon is waxing (getting larger) - which makes feeding times stay around midday - give or take a couple of hours. The water temperature at Old Gulf Cut is 69.6 degrees today.

and Fishing Report:

Hi, Guys!

Spring is officially here, and today looks it should have been a good day fishing - but it doesn't look like many went out today....We had a cold front this week with another small one expected tonight or tomorrow. Friday should bring a northeast wind around 15+ mph. Fishing should be good around the cuts (like Old Gulf Cut or Flounder Cut in East Bay) and passes going into the bays on the north side when the tide is moving - try for reds and flounder using live bait like shrimp or minnows. The Diversion Channel, Tripod Reef in West Bay, or up the river may also be good spots to try. The wind will probably switch around to the southeast for Saturday and Sunday. That makes the south shorelines and reefs of both bays the place to be. Soft plastic artificial bait should work well for you - red, glow/chartreuse, or fire tiger may be hot this weekend. So, come on down and "wet a hook"!

This Week's Fishing Reports

Thursday, March 21
Unable to get a fishing report from anyone - very few fishermen went out, and there were no reports of catches.

Wednesday, March 20
No fishing report today because of the wind.

Tuesday, March 19
Today was a bad day for fishing in East and West Bays - the wind was blowing really hard down here. However, we had reports of some flounder and trout being caught up in the Colorado River.

Monday, March 18
Not a good day for fishing in either bay - a few scattered reports of fishermen catching trout - but that's about all.

Sunday, March 17
Happy St. Patrick's Day to all you Matagorda Bay fishermen! Today was a good day for catching trout drifting out in East Matagorda Bay. Lots of nice stringers of trout came in from East Bay, and a few oversized redfish and big drum were caught at the jetties. The south shoreline in West Matagorda Bay produced a few nice stringers of fish, too.

Saturday, March 16
There was a fair amount of trout caught in East Matagorda Bay today -- not as many as yesterday, though. There were a few big redfish (over 28 inches) caught on the jetties at the beach -- and some whiting. The Diversion Channel produced nice catches of sand trout today.

Friday, March 15
Fishing was just about the same today as yesterday in East Matagorda Bay - nice catches of trout and a few reds in East Matagorda Bay drifting over scattered shell and wadefishing along the south shoreline. This seems to be a trend that's holding true. The wind may turn and come out of the north tomorrow, making the south shoreline not as good -- the north shoreline will become a better bet in that case. Good luck!

Thursday, March 14
Fishing is finally heating up! There were nice catches of trout and a few reds in East Matagorda Bay -- drifting over scattered shell and wadefishing along the south shoreline again! There were a few flounder caught in the Diversion Channel. The surf was slow today, produceing only limited catches of sheephead, whiting and redfish.

Wednesday, March 13
It was a good day for fishing today - looks like spring has decided to stay around for awhile. There were quite a few trout caught out in East Matagorda Bay today by drifting over scattered shell and wadefishing along the south shoreline. There were also some redfish caught, but not as many reds as trout. The guides were out in East Matagorda Bay today in full force with their boats full -- all of them brought in nice catches of fish - trout, reds, and some sheephead. Again, it seems like Charlie Paradoski was in the lead with the biggest catch.

This Week's Tip
When wadefishing during the springtime, try to find a muddy bottom in about 3-5 feet of water. Trout prefer water that isn't clear. And find an area on the windward shoreline where the bottom is "right" and there are plenty of mullet around - that's the spot to be!
