Hi, Guys!
Since this week hasn't been a really good week for
fishing, I may as well start off with something to
laugh about --
Henry's son, David, burst into the house, crying.
His mother asked him what the problem was. "Daddy
and I were fishing, and he hooked a giant fish. Really
big. Then, while he was reeling it in, the line busted
and the fish got away." "Now come on, David,"
his mother said, "a big boy like you shouldn't
be crying about an accident like that. You should
have just laughed it off." "But that's just
what I did, mommy."
The shorelines in both bays are probably your best
bets this weekend. Looks like the south shoreline
will be your best bet on Friday, but Saturday should
bring a wind shift back from the north with a chance
for rain. Protected areas are what you'll be looking
for - the Diversion Channel, upriver, Crab Lake entrance.
Even though soft plastics and topwaters are usually
the ticket, you'll see more fish biting on live shrimp
under a popping cork this weekend. If you decide to
go with the soft plastics, try throwing something
in a pumpkinseed/chartreuse combination, red shad,
or roach colors. You might try some live shrimp on
the cuts and sloughs leading into the bays and be
lucky enough to take home a few flounder. Oyster Lake
is starting to produce, although most of the fish
being caught are small in size.
Come on down and give it a try!
Good Luck!
See ya next week,

Week's Fishing Reports |
|
Thursday, 05/16/02
It was a slow day for fishing down here. There were
a few reports of trout and reds being caught over
in West Matagorda Bay, but there weren't many fishermen
out.
Wednesday, 05/15/02
There was a fair amount of action over in West Matagorda
Bay today. Drifting in the middle of the bay produced
a few limits of trout when using live shrimp as bait.
There were also some trout caught along the south
shoreline using rootbeer/chartreuse Sand Eels. There
were some nice catches of trout along the south shoreline
at the east end of the bay, too. Drifting in Oyster
Lake produced some reds, trout, flounder and sheephead,
but they were mostly undersized.
Tuesday, 05/14/02
The wind is still keeping the fishermen out of the
bays. However, we had one report of a fishing guide
and his party bringing in some redfish, flounder,
and sheephead which they caught on live shrimp.
Monday, 05/13/02
No fishing report available today because of the
wind and weather.
Sunday, 05/12/02
Another bad day of fishing - there were a few reds
brought in from West Matagorda Bay - wind is still
keeping the fishermen "at bay"...!
Saturday, 05/11/02
Fishing was pretty bad today - slim pickings...I
didn't see any of the fishing guides going out, and
there were only a few other fishermen out in the wind
-- and very few fish were caught.
Friday, 05/10/02
The Greens Bayou area is still the area to be in,
but the wind is keeping most of the fishermen at home.
Those who are brave enough to venture out and wade
using soft plastics have been able to bring home fair
stringers of trout with a few flounder and reds mixed
in. The wind was still really bad today, though. No
report from the fishing pier.
Thursday, 05/09/02
West Matagorda Bay produced nice stringers of trout
for wadefishermen on Norton Sand Eels in a rootbeer/chartreuse
combination.

Week's Tip |
| Feeding times for large speckled
trout tend to be in the low light conditions associated
with both dawn and dusk as well as during the night under
the moon's illumination. |
