...where fishing meets the net

I hope all you fishermen out there got lots of fishing tackle for Christmas! The weather has been keeping some of you at home, but the fishing in East Matagorda Bay has been real good when the wind hasn't been too bad. There's going to be a full moon on Sunday -- which means that the fish will be feeding heavily around midday for the next 4-5 days. Through Monday (12-31) there should be a lot of action in the afternoons, also. Early morning looks good on Jan. 1-2.

Good luck this week and drop us a line at webmaster@matagorda-bay.com to let us know if you caught any!

Happy New Year,

Weekly Fishing Reports follow:
------------------------------------------------------------
12/27/01
Fishing was real slow today in East Matagorda Bay. Fishermen were catching whiting at the pier down at the beach.

12/26/01
Fishing reports were few and far between today. Rawlings Bait Camp had no information. Matagorda Harbor advised us that very few fishermen had been going out -- and no reports of fish being caught because of the northerly winds.

Fishing was great in East Matagorda Bay today! Fishermen were coming in with really nice stringers of trout and redfish. The birds were working all over the bay, and drifting under them using artificial and live bait was all you needed to do! Down at the pier, a variety of fish were caught using fresh dead shrimp. The surf was very rough today, though.

Pretty good day of fishing today! This morning in East Matagorda Bay the birds were working, and people were able to catch some nice stringers of trout and a few redfish by fishing under them. After noon, the best fishing was over scattered reefs/shell using artificials and live shrimp. Down at the pier on the beach, people were catching whiting, sheepshead, sand trout, a few redfish, and some small flounder -- fresh dead shrimp for bait.

12/20/01
Few people went fishing today -- and it was mostly hit and miss for those who went. Your best bet is to try drifting over scattered shell or under
birds using pumpkinseed/chartreuse or red/white Bass Assassins or some similar soft plastic bait.

12/19/01
Not a good fishing day today. A few boats went out -- and some came home with only a few trout, and some came home empty-handed. The wind was really blowing hard today.

12/18/01
In East Matagorda Bay nice stringers of trout and redfish were caught by fishermen who drifted under the birds and over the reefs - they were using artificials such as rootbeer and pumpkinseed Bass Assassins.Fishing was much better in the early afternoon than in the morning. One fisherman said he fished "all over the bay" and caught fish. So it looks like any spot will work as well as another. It looks like the wind will be out of the north tomorrow -- so the west end of the bay looks good, as well as drifting in the usual spots.

12/17/01
Fishing must have been good somewhere today....but not in Matagorda. The sun was shining and the weather was nice, but the wind was blowing a gale! I only saw two boats out today, but none of the "old salts" went.

12/16/01
So, how many of you die-hard fishermen went out today? Not many! But you should have. The fishing was a little slow this morning, but it picked up
quite a bit this afternoon. Those who went were able to catch nice stringers of trout and some redfish in East Matagorda Bay by drifting under the birds and over scattered shell reefs like 3 Beacon Reef and similar reefs in the west half of East Bay. The wind should pick up tonight and come around from the northwest at 15-20 mph tonight, making tomorrow a breezy day.
